1. Clean Your Windows During Cloudy Days — If your daily routine allows window cleaning on short notice, try to time it on a cloudy day. Water on the window glass dries much slower when there’s no sun out, which helps prevent hard-to-remove water spotting and streaks. Overcast skies also mean less glare, which makes window cleaning more comfortable for your eyes.
2. Work from the Bottom Up — Clean your windows starting from the bottom and work your way up. Going from top to bottom would push dirt to the bottom of the window, which could dry out and make them harder to remove. Also, make it a point to clean the frames and sashes before the glass. This helps prevent scratches on the glass that may be caused by grit or other hard particles like roofing granules. If your windows have features like removable, tiltable, or reach-around sashes, use them for better access to hard-to-reach areas.

4. Invest In a Squeegee — Window cleaning professionals use a squeegee because it’s more efficient at removing soap and water from glass. Choose squeegee blades that are 12 to 14 inches wide for best coverage and ease of use. Use new squeegee blades every time you clean your windows, as the rubber can become too stiff and crack over time, and scratch your windows. Replacement blades are affordable, can be bought in rolls, and are easy to find online or at your local hardware store.
