Roof Repair vs. Roof Replacement
Which Do You Need?
After a storm passes, you might notice that your roof has taken the brunt of the weather. Perhaps you see some shingles on the ground, or there may be new punctures or dents in your roofing system. Whatever the damage, you might start to worry about what to do next.
The first step is normally a visual inspection of your roof. You can do this from the ground with a pair of binoculars. How much of your roof is damaged? Is the damage contained to a small area? Are there only a few shingles missing, or has a branch fallen and affected a large section of the roof?
If the damage is small, you may be a good candidate for a roof repair. If all or most of the roof is damaged, you may benefit from replacing the entire roof. Our qualified roof inspectors can help you determine which makes the most sense for your home.
Factors to Consider
Besides the extent of the damage, there are other factors that determine whether you should repair or replace. One is the age of your roof. A system that is older than 15 to 20 years might be due for a replacement. While a roof repair job might be cheaper, you might just be patching something that needs to be removed anyway. Your money will be better spent on a full replacement.
Think about the look of your roof before the damage. If it was already looking old and worn, and it’s getting near the end of its lifespan, then a replacement makes sense.
